Graduating with a B.S. in Civil Engineering from the University of Alaska Fairbanks in 2000, he embarked on a journey that has shaped the landscape of infrastructure across the State of Alaska.

With a strong foundation as a project engineer, project manager, and Mat-Su Area manager at a leading heavy civil contractor, Mr. Sommer honed his skills in managing complex projects. Over the years, he has overseen a staggering $100 million in civil construction work, $10 million in environmental cleanup projects, and $8 million in vertical construction work. As a masterful leader, he has cultivated Tutka’s construction division into a stable, reliable, and profitable industry force, boasting extensive bridge construction expertise.

Mr. Sommer’s hands-on approach to project management and extensive engineering background has led to developing cost-effective solutions in collaboration with designers and owners. As a managing member and working owner, he oversees Tutka’s diverse projects, overseeing all senior management, superintendents, foremen, and more. His visionary leadership has propelled Tutka to new heights, driving the company’s success in delivering exceptional infrastructure that is a testament to engineering excellence.
